Need a little inspiration to get fit? Olive Drew was a retired teacher who began running at age 80. She signed up for a one mile run/walk event to rehab following hip replacement surgery. She got hooked on the experience and began walking, then running, with her son. Olive completed hundreds of 5k and 8k events during the next thirteen years and won two Gold Medals at the National Senior Games. Her running concluded with a third Gold Medal, this time in San Francisco at the National Senior Games at the age of 93. Olive passed away earlier this year at the age of 96. She lived life to the fullest, traveling extensively and hang gliding into her 80’s. The Olive Run was held on August 18th to honor Olive’s memory and to raise money for students of District #313 (where she taught) who plan to pursue a career in education.
Now get off the couch! If Olive could do it, so can you.
