Produce of the Week Challenge - Kiwi

Each week,we will feature one item from the produce section and provide information on buying, storing and preparing that fruit or vegetable.  Your challenge is to eat the produce of the week at least one time in the next seven days.  If you are already eating this weeks item on a regular basis, then your challenge is to prepare it in a different way.  We'll try to get more adventurous as time goes on!

This week's item is kiwi.  Kiwi is on sale at HyVee this week (6/8 - 6/14) at four(4) for $1.

Buying:
Look for kiwi that are firm, yield to gentle pressure and are without blemishes.
Avoid kiwi that are hard, moldy, spotted, or shriveled.

Seasonality:
Late fall, winter and spring

Storing:
Ripen at room temperature. Speed up the ripening process by placing kiwis in a paper bag with an apple or banana. Use within a week.

Preparing:
Rinse well before eating. Peel and chop kiwis or slice in half and scoop out the flesh with a spoon. The skin is edible, too.
