New Additions to the Affordable Care Act

On August 1, 2011, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) adopted additional Guidelines for Women’s Preventive Services – including well-woman visits, support for breastfeeding equipment, contraception, and domestic violence screening – that will be covered without cost sharing in new health plans starting in August 2012.

This means common expenses such as birth control pills and expensive surgeries like a tubal ligation, will be covered with no out-of-pocket expense beginning at our next renewal.

Additionally, breastfeeding support and supplies, sexually transmitted infection testing and counseling, domestic violence screening and counseling, and gestational diabetes screening will also be covered with no cost sharing.
